As my son and I travelled for the Christmas holiday, I was reminded again of all who work weekends and holidays to make people like me safe, healthy and comfortable. I am grateful to the folks who make sure that I can get fuel for the trip, the road crews who come out when the roads get slippery, the law enforcement officers and firefighters who are there in the event of an emergency, and those who work in the health care setting. I made an unanticipated visit to the hospital with my mom on Christmas day. It turned out that she is o.k., but it was an up close and personal look at how some health care professionals spent their holiday away from their families and caring for mine. They did so with the highest degree of skill and with amazing kindness. So, as 2010 turns to 2011 and I have the day off, I want to take this opportunity to thank those who will work and the families who will celebrate the New Year without them. Best wishes to all for a happy, healthy 2011!

Everything that is going to get done is now done. It’s time to sit back, join with family and friends and enjoy the benefits of all the preparation. I wish you and those you care for a very merry Christmas!

Christmas is only a week away! Every year it seems to creep up on me before I’m ready for it. I am so happy to have my son, Max, home from his first semester of college. The holidays are all about family. As we prepare for the holidays and for the new year, I hope we have a chance to take a few moments to just enjoy the anticipation and the chance to be together with those who are special to us. As my grandmother used to say, “You should enjoy it. Before you know it, it will be over.”

As we all move into full holiday mode, what more can we add? Circulating nomination papers seems to be the answer. I know how busy this time of year is for everyone, and I am very appreciative that so many of you have added this task to your holiday “to-do list”. It secures my place on the ballot and we don’t get to choose the timing-so thank you for fitting it into your schedules.
